Wide Angle View

Resolution may be important, but it is definitely not the only thing to consider. Do you know a camera with HD resolution possibly see less than a standard resolution camera? Yes, it is possible if your view angle is too narrow. Check below photo comparison, you will see how view angle can impact on your camera view. Left side is a camera with 65 degree view angle and right side is 110 degree. Red line in right hand side photo frames approximate region that you can see with 65 degree camera, all areas outside of it can't be seen without a wide angle camera. With a HD resolution camera and a narrow view angle, you don't necessarily see more than a camera with lower resolution but wider view angle. In your house, if the view angle of your camera is less than a 100 degree, then beware, one camera may not be enough even you only want to cover your living room.



Night View and IR LED

You may not know what is night view and what is IR LED, but please keep this in mind, your camera can't see in the night if it doesn't feature both of them. Your camera must support night view to see in the dark and IR illuminator will help it to see it more clearly. Don’t trust vendor when they say how long distance it can see clearly in the dark though, you never know what their definition is for “clearly”. Also, 1 or 2 IR LED is not enough, at least 10 IR LED should be equipped on the camera to deliver nice view in the dark. Resolution

Finally, it comes to resolution. While all other conditions kept same, of course it would help you to see better when resolution is higher. However, higher resolution means higher bandwidth requirement, HD is optimal for WiFi bandwidth in most conditions, resolution higher than that may cause some problems to the network in your house.
