At SpotCam, privacy and security are our top priorities. One unique feature we offer is the ability to make your camera stream publicly accessible online . A common question we get is: "Is my camera visible to the public?"
This article will show you how to check your camera’s privacy status and share some quick tips on keeping your device and account secure.
What Does It Mean If My Camera Is Public?
With SpotCam, you have the option to set your camera as public, which allows anyone to view the live stream online. This is ideal for public spaces — such as cafés, scenic spots, or storefronts — where visibility can benefit your business or community.
However, for private or residential environments, we strongly recommend keeping your camera set to private to protect your personal privacy.
Important: All SpotCam devices are private by default. No one can see your footage unless you explicitly choose to share it.
How to Check If Your Camera Is Public
On the Web (Desktop):
1.Go to myspotcam.com and log into your account.
2.On the My SpotCam dashboard, look at the top-left corner of each camera thumbnail.
3.If the label says Public, your camera is currently viewable online. If it says Private, it is not publicly accessible.
On the Mobile App:
1.Open the SpotCam app and log in.
2.On the My SpotCam screen, check the top-left corner of your camera's preview image.
3.If you see a red label marked Public, that camera is currently visible to the public.

How to Set Your Camera to Private
If your camera is currently public and you’d like to make it private, just follow the steps below:
On the Web:
1.Click the Settings icon for your camera.
2.Go to the Public section.
3.Click the "Turn Private" button.
On the Mobile App:
1.Tap on the camera to open its live view.
2.Click More and go to the Share tab.
3.Tap "Turn Private" to restrict access.
Once updated, the label will reflect the new status, and your camera will no longer be publicly listed, only you and any authorized users you’ve invited can view the stream or recorded clips.
